For several years, the music of Western Canada’s These Estates has served as the steady soundtrack to our driving, running and dishwasher emptying. So, it made perfect sense to move a trio of their back catalogue releases digitally under the Comedy Minus One umbrella while far newer material is en route. We love ’em and you will too.

In fact, for the moment all three of these gems are NAME YOUR PRICE on Bandcamp so you can discover what you’ve missed without worry. We just want you to press play.

Today on all streaming services you will find…

cmo058 – These Estates – “Soiled Hands +4”

The trio’s first single is violent fantasy b/w its emotional wreckage, a gruesome blast of sludge followed by warm, chiming, meditative guitar pop. Also features a song originally recorded for a compilation (“Without Slim-Fit Jeans I Am Nothing”) and two tags for the show The Capital on Regina community radio station 91.3 CJTR. Recorded in a basement.

cmo059 – These Estates – “The Dignity of Man”

The first album. Expressive, earnest riff-driven rock, punchy, scrappy and unfussy, with precisely one overdub. Not too shabby. Recorded live-off-the-floor in a Canadian living room. There is a very limited vinyl pressing available here, dear sir.

cmo060 – These Estates – “Triumph, Reign”

The second album. Brash and confident, take-no-prisoners, fiercely hopeful rock that builds intensity by embracing more open space and expansive songwriting. Recorded live-off-the-floor in a Canadian basement, yet again.

As the rulers of slowcore driveway-drownage, These Estates spin their sonorous spools in the colours of torn skies and rolling asphalt.” -Joshua Robinson, Weird Canada
